A craft education organization based in Los Angeles, CA.

Our mission is to fortify young people by gathering in person to practice traditional meditative crafts, cultivate mental wellness, supportive peer groups, and a deep sense of purpose and belonging.

In the round is a term used in knitting that indicates a circular pattern, using circular needles, and is commonly used for hats, socks, collars, or edging. Additionally, quilt circles and sewing circles, are an ancient tradition and the term circle is used because a groups gathers together typically sitting in a circle all working on a shared project in community.

All historical photos are sourced from the free media repository at the US National Archive. The intention of using a diverse set of historical photos is to show the overlapping traditions - cross-cultural and cross-generational - of crafting circles.

In The Round was founded in 2022 by Meg Glasser. After bringing endless energy and midnight-oil to multiple startups like Food Forward, Good Eggs, Glamsquad, and CraftJam, Meg realized the thing she’s most passionate about is building organizations rooted in creative communities.

In 2022, Meg started teaching a weekly knitting and crochet workshop to a group of elementary school students at Elysian Heights Elementary. After a few weeks, she began to see improvements in their confidence, leadership skills, fine-motor skills and attention span. Most notably, she noticed their desire to unplug and connect with friends.

It was this weekly workshop that inspired In The Round, and that was like a giant scarf of realization - stitching her childhood, education, inspirations and passions all together:

  • The proud daughter of a textile artist and dressmaker.

  • A Bachelor’s in Textile Arts from the College of Design at NC State.

  • Leadership roles in brands that are rooted in creative communities, including the Co-Founder of CraftJam.

  • And most importantly Meg’s daily “keep-em-creative-and-off-screens” fieldwork as a mother in a blended family with 4 kids: a 10-year-old, 13-year-old twins, and a 16-year-old.
